Spring Erosion Bundle 2017 – Fabrics

Here are the fabric results from my spring erosion bundle. I posted the paper results about 2 weeks ago – you can see them HERE. I’m quite pleased with how the fabrics turned out….

EB Fabric 9 - NB

A piece of lacy fabric has been given a vintage make over in my erosion bundle with the aid of some rusty items and pale blue paint…

EB Fabric 9 - close up - NB

Here’s a slightly closer view of the rusty section, looking beautifully vintage….

EB Fabric 8 - NB

Above is part of an armchair arm cover. I has some lovely rust stains on it, plus paint and paper for added texture. Here’s a closer view…

EB Fabric 8 - close up - NB

You can see the paint and paper stuck to the fabric – they are completely fused together…

EB Fabric 10 - NB

Above we have some more very vintage looking lace pieces, stained by rust and teabags….

EB Fabric 1 - NB

Paint and tea stained cotton….

EB Fabric 2 - NB

Gentle rust and dark blue paint stains on some silk…

EB Fabric 3 - NB

More lovely rust stains from some washers and other items…..

Next we have a series of bleach washed denim. I soaked the denim in bleach, rinsed and dried it prior to putting it into my erosion bundle

My fabrics will be carefully stored till I am ready to use them in  my art work. In the meantime I’m deciding what to put into my summer erosion bundle. I’m going for a different colour scheme and using other things I’ve never tried before. I’m hoping to get it into the garden before the end of the month….

Colour Inspiration

Turquoise Boat - NB

These are the colours that are inspiring me today ~ turquoise, aqua, and cyan ~ colours on a sea worn boat in the harbour….

Indigo,Turquoise & Rust - NB

Above we have some bleached dark indigo denim (dark indigo denim doesn’t bleach white, it goes a dark cream colour that you see above) along with some cotton dyed with cerulean blue acrylic paint and some rusty stuff.

They’re colours that complement each other so well. Underneath the image I used Photoshop to “paint” colour samples with colours extracted from the image. In real painting terms the colours I see in the image are Indigo, Cerulean Blue, Buff Titanium and Burnt Sienna ~ a beautiful inspiring combination….

I may have a play with these colours later this evening….

Indigo & Rust

Denim & Rust - NB

At the weekend I decided to have a little play with some light blue denim and some bleach. I just love the wonderful shades of indigo blue that denim comes in – they’re all very different.

Also a new crop of rusty stuff is “developing” in my garden! The piece of rust above is one of four new pieces recently rusted. I also have a lovely collection of washers and nuts happily gaining a nice thick rusty coat in my garden at the moment….

Rusting Washers - NB

They’re not properly “cooked” yet – these washers will be in my garden for at least another week yet. I’m so looking forward to putting some of these into my erosion bundles and other art work when they’re done!

This is a piece of hand bleached indigo denim with a rusty key I found, again the colours and textures work so well together. They inspire me…

Back in St. Ives harbour, more lobster pot details. These wonderful colours make me want to get my paints out… I see Cerulean Blue, Emerald, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna and background colours of Paynes Grey and Raw Umber…

These photos inspire me to the point where I can feel an art project developing in my mind…

paper-fabric-erosion-bundle-2-a

On August 22nd 2016 I made an erosion bundle pictured above. It’s a stack of paper and some fabric sandwiched together with all sorts of things – random blobs of paint, tea bags, rusty objects, tumeric etc. I tied it with string and then placed it in the garden to let the elements work their magic on it. On Sunday (27th November 2016), 3 months later, I decided to see how it was doing. It was looking rather worse for wear! So I decided to bring it indoors and open it up! Would you like to see what I ended up with… ??

erosion-bundle-1-rn

Those of you who have done this before will know that you have to peel the damp papers apart very carefully. When my fragile papers came apart I found I had lots of beautifully  stained, aged papers and fabric with wonderful colours and textures…

This is a more detailed view of the above picture:

eb-detail-1-rn

Can you imagine how these lovely colours and textures will look in some mixed media art or collage?

Next is the other side of the above piece of paper:

With erosion bundles you never know what you’re going to end up with so I was over the moon to see such wonderful colours, textures and stains on my papers…

This is a more detailed view of the above picture:

erosion-bundle-5-rn

This piece of indigo denim  became totally fused together with the papers that surrounded it – they are totally inseparable! Next is a picture of  the other side:

The rust apparently seeped through all the layers of paper and fabric, along with tea stains from the tea bags…

erosion-bundle-7-rn

What awesome textures – the hint of green colour in the above picture is where some turmeric mixed with some turquoise paint…

erosion-bundle-8-rn

erosion-bundle-9-rn

Three months in my garden and these papers look like they could be hundreds of years old! Some lace has become beautifully antique looking…

Paint stained and rusted indigo denim:

The rusty items in my erosion bundle became even more rusty and were covered in paper and paint…

erosion-bundle-14-rn

These delicate papers will be now stored very carefully somewhere nice and flat till I get to use them in some art. The fabrics will go into my fabric stash ready for use and the rusty items will get reused again in another project! You can click on any of the images to view them larger.

I hope you’ve enjoyed viewing my erosion bundle results. I really enjoy doing erosion bundles and I’ve already got some good  ideas for my next erosion bundle…

Vintage Blue Lace

This is one of my most recent FREE textures:

Vintage Blue Lace

It’s FREE to download and use in your photography/art/design work. Just click on the image to take you to the image on Flickr and the download button is on the far right of the black area! I love this texture it’s fast becoming one of my favourites! Here are some images I’ve processed using this texture:

This image is available in my shop

The three images above are all of an assortment of denims converted to monochrome and overlaid with my Vintage Blue Lace texture! The denims and lace seem to work very well together.

Vintage Denim & Lace

This is an original design I created for my shop using my Vintage Blue Lace texture, some denim and a stripe design which is also my own original design! I really like this design and it works well with the products in my shop!

I wish sometimes there could be an extra 4 hours a day and an extra day in the week – I seem to be always battling against the clock to try and fit in all I want to do! I hope you’re all having a great weekend ~ see you soon!

I really like how my fabric collages turned out, although they did end up quite different to how I originally imagined they would. They just kind of evolved as I added more and more acrylic paint. I especially like the macro photos of my collages as they really show off the colours, textures and details better.

The Blues…

Denim Watercolour

I treated myself to a new watercolour last week – indigo. Of course I had to try it out, so I did a series of small samples to go in my 14.5 x 14.5 cm sketchbook. Above is Indigo combined with Cobalt Turquoise.

Denim Watercolour 2

This sample is Prussian Blue combined with Indigo

Denim & Lace Watercolour

This sample is Pthalo Turquoise mixed with Burnt Sienna.

These shades of blue and turquoise are some of my most favourite watercolour shades. These watercolour samples inspired me to do a whole series of denim photos:

Usually it’s photography that inspires me to create some art but this time it was a little artwork that inspired me to take a series of photos. You can view more of these denim images in my Photostream on Flickr.
